Eric Yevak: Exhibition

Eric Yevak at City Wide Artists
In For a Penny, In For a Pound

About city wide artists

City Wide Artists is gallery produced through Vision Management Group Inc. in Minneapolis, MN. Their mission is to present inner city artists with deeply rooted, contemporary, and controversial work. Located at a crossing point of industrial landscape and big corporations, Director Teqen Zea-Aida took interest in creating a platform that redefines an urban creative space.

In October of 2015, I was a co-curator of the solo exhibition for Brooklyn based artist, Eric Yevak, with the assistance of Director Teqen Zea-Aida and Production Assistant Shaina McCoy.

Eric Yevak’s work explores violent conflict, both physical and metaphorical, as creative force. Struggle, in all its iterations, has been a constant in his life and as such, the foundation of his creative production. He conceptually and visually investigates the beauty inherent in the heightened balance that exists at the apex of a conflict. His interest lies neither in the beginning nor the aftermath, but in the pinnacle moment when, however briefly, all forces are equal.

At the time, Eric Yevak had a variety work, providing us with large archival prints and wood panels. He also had saturated works accompanied with deep, dark paintings.

The opening reception was well attended by students, fellow artists, fashion designers, press, and local passersby.

For the closing reception, Director Teqen Zea-Aida organized an artist talk with Eric Yevak and moderated by Tricia Heuring, the co-director and curator of Public Functionary.

Limited Edition Book

After interviewing Yevak and learning his process, Teqen Zea-Aida wrote brief statements and I photographed Yevak in his studio. I designed a limited edition book of 200 copies.
